Happy Holidays...
I've been fired. They were nice enough to give me till Jan. 11, so I will get my 3 weeks of vacation for the new year, which gives me a month to look for a new job.

If anyone knows of an opening anywhere, please let me know?

I have been working as a graphic designer/design assistant for 6 years, doing illustration, graphic design (including packaging, newsletters, fliers, magazine ads, web icons, etc), and general crafts (which is unlikely to help outside the hobby industry!)

we all knew the company was having a hard time, and they reduced our hours by a half hour a day to save some money about three months ago... but we figured that had bought more time. Certainly didn't think things were this bad.

My boss was a bit of a coward. "ahhh.... um... i... have kind of a weird thing to ask... I have to ask you to stop working for us. It's weird to do this over the phone... *insert five minutes of blathering about the state of the industry and general hardship among needlework companies everywhere*"

They wouldn't have done it if they didn't have to... but I really wish we had known things were this dire a little sooner, so that we could be preparing. They played it as close to the vest as they could get away with.

Yeah. Dena says they're working with a skeleton crew at the plant, and I'm not the only layoff in this round apparently. She gives them a few months before the whole company goes under, and wants to know if i can be a reference for her, too.

We just went on a hire freeze yesterday in preparation for ye olde recession or I'd offer you something part time at least.

I'm sure you'll find something soon. With the new year come new budgets and new hiring.

I hope so... i found a couple graphic artist positions open on Craigslist, and maybe I can convince them that knowledge of InDesign or CorelDraw is not important. Also web design. Totally superfluous. er.

Oh shit, I'm so sorry! I know it wasn't a perfect job, but this sucks, and it really really stinks to tell you right before the holidays (although that does seem to be standard practice, because people are jackasses).

I don't know of any opportunities offhand, but if I find that anyone needs a graphic artist/illustrator, I'll sing your praises with absolute sincerity.

Of course, it's a non-paying position, so in fairness I'd suggest you look elsewhere.
